How much does it cost to get a Private Pilot Certificate?
A student might spend between $18,000 and $28,000 to become a private pilot. The cost largely depends on dedication and how many hours it takes to complete training. It is different for everyone. If a student remains focused, studies hard, and flies on a regular basis, the estimated average cost with ABEC is $15,000.
How long does training take?
Most students earn their Private Pilot License in 4 to 8 months when flying 1 to 2 times per week. Full-time students may finish in as little as 2 to 3 months, while part-time or seasonal students may take 8 to 12 months depending on weather and scheduling.
Can I schedule an Introductory Flight?
Yes. ABEC offers an educational Introductory Flight before enrollment. Cost is $150, and $100 will be credited if you enroll with ABEC. Schedule an Introductory Flight.
What kind of aircraft will I be flying?
ABEC operates two identical FAA-registered light-sport aircraft equipped for dual instruction under Part 61. These modern two-seat trainers feature full flight controls and digital avionics, providing a safe, efficient platform for introductory and private pilot flight training. N154VR is a 2019 Vashon R7, and N322VR is a 2021 Vashon R7.
What if I have no past experience?
No prior flight experience is required. Most students begin training with zero aviation background. Your instructor will teach you everything step by step, starting with basic aircraft control and building toward solo flight and the Private Pilot License.
Do I have to be a U.S. citizen to take flying lessons?
Yes. ABEC requires participants to be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents. While the FAA allows non-U.S. citizens to train after completing TSA approval, ABEC does not currently have the administrative capacity or instructor availability to support TSA FTSP training requirements.
